Paula Rodrigues Pontes was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She received her undergraduate degree at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG Brazil), in 1998. She then moved to the United States where she received the M.A.(May 2000) and PhD (May 2004) in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia. Her field of specialization is Contemporary Brazilian Literature but she has also done research on Hispanic and Lusophone literatures, cultural approaches to Lusophone Literature, relations between literature, culture and ideology and languages teaching methodologies. She has taught Portuguese at the University Georgia and now teaches Spanish at Georgia Perimeter College.
